Our parish Religious Education Office strives to provide faith formation for all members of our parish, reflecting the diversity in age and culture of our parish families. St. Paul clearly explains that as members of the Body of Christ, we all work together, each offering our specific gift for the greater good of the Body. In order to do so, however, we need to continue learning about our faith so that we can better live it, sharing and passing our common Catholic faith on to others. To that end, we here at Our Lady of Fatima strive to offer faith formation programs that will suit the varied needs of our parish family.
Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) – The Catholic Church teaches that our parents are our first teachers of faith. This is accomplished through the example of prayer, attending Mass regularly and receiving the sacraments, and actively living what we learn and what we believe. It is the goal of a parish faith community to assist our parents. PREP classes are open to parish families with children who are of school age. Classes are held weekly from September through the end of April, and are offered on Sunday mornings for grades Preschool through 8th grade. Classes for the Sunday morning program are held from 8:30 am – 9:50 am, when children will be escorted to church to meet their families for 10:00 Mass. RCIA adapted For Children classes are also offered on Sunday mornings. For families who prefer a week day class, we offer classes on Wednesday evenings for grades 1 through 8, from 6:30 pm until 7:45 pm. All classes are held in the school building. Our catechists are parish volunteers who are trained in this ministry and who continue to attend formation that keeps their understanding of our faith current and relevant for today’s Catholic family.
If you are interested in learning more about the ministry of parish catechist, please contact the parish office at 302-328-3431 or religious education at 302-328-0307.
Classes for Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation are also offered through the Religious Education office. Diocesan policy suggests that all children should have their sacrament formation at the home-parish. These classes are separate from Religion classes in school or from PREP class. We do follow diocesan guidelines for sacrament formation. All children who are eligible to prepare for sacraments must be enrolled in, attending, and successfully completing at least one year of formal faith formation before becoming eligible for sacrament preparation.
Registration forms and information on sacrament fees are available by contacting the religious education office at 302-328-0307 or by email at PREP@OLFNEWCASTLE.COM
Adult Education – At various times throughout the year we offer formation for those who wish to enrich their faith life by learning more about it. The variety of what we offer, as well as the times that programs are offered will always be advertised in the parish bulletin.
Registration information for these programs is provided as necessary in the parish bulletin. If you would like to be added to the email list to be notified of Adult Ed offerings, please contact the rectory office at 302-328-3431.
